This site is dedicated to the memory of Philip Thomas Cunningham.

Philip Cunningham was a much loved and respected teacher and musician in Shropshire. He sang with Clungunford Choir; taught flute, clarinet and oboe; and for more than a decade played clarinet with North Wales Symphony Orchestra and occasionally with Ludlow Orchestra. As a member of staff at Bedstone College Philip supported a wide range of musical activity and was invariably encouraging to young and aspiring performers. Following Philip's untimely death in 2001 his widow, Ruth, and two friends established a memorial trust in his name. The trust ran an annual competition for deserving young woodwind players in South Shropshire and for seven years awarded prizes to winners (and latterly to runners-up) to encourage continued playing and performance on leaving school or college. The winners participated in annual concerts which also featured Philip's musical friends and colleagues and raised money to enable continuation of the trust. Changing circumstances have led to the trust being wound up and the trustees decided to donate the major part of the remaining funds to Youth Music.
